I put on a new power steering box(chevy 2 wheel drive) and I still have no power steering to the left , right turns good, cold or warm.Any ideas? Nothing seems to be bent or broken.

Your pump wont change according to how you turn. Sounds like you need to center your steering. Pull the shaft loose from your dog joint or rag joint as some call it. turn your steering box as far as it will go. Now split the number of turns in half and put the box in that position. Now re attach your rag joint. Should solve it.:D

I built a mazda that was on full size chev axles and i always had trouble with the steering. good luck figuring it out.

Sounds like both your old and new steering gears are shot. . . .

That is the exact same thing that happened to my buddies chevy went through 3 steering boxes all the same and then he just ponied up and got a brand new PSP one.

It sounds like the valving in the steering gear is fawked and wont open the other valve to allow free turning either way

Your linkage isn't binding is it?I've seen what seems like a pwr steering problem turn out to be a geometry issue with the steering linkage. If not, then yes, you've got a valving problem in the box-it'd be the only place that hydraulically controls steering in either direction!

This happened to me with a Chev also. New steering gear is expensive but it cured my steering problems once and for all.

power steering(new problem)

Installed new "used" box, drained system, added a cooler, filled system, bled system, now the fwakin thing has no power steering either way.The linkage is not binding. It was working before.

sounds like your power steering pump is shot. Try using some Lucas power steering lube if you dont want to replace it. It worked for me.

Or like i said in my above post you could have gotten another fawked one. . . mabe thats why it was for sale. . . ? Honestly if you buy used buy one you can actually see work and you can try yourself otherwise just pony up and get the new one:awesomework:

Good luck steering issues suck ass:beer:

the new "used" box was from a junk yard ,it was all cleaned up , the fluid was clean when I pushed/pulled on the pitman arm it seemed to turn fine.

Usually thats a good test for a steerin gear, but when your trying to solve this problem not so much. You need oil and pressure going through it to tell for sure, and obviously you got another **** one by the sounds of it.

A suggestion, maybe, if you know anybody else with a chevy and a matching steering setup or atleast same steering gear, then ask them if you can't try theres on your rig, if it works you know thats the problem, if it doesn't then you know there is another problem. . .

This is a very notorious chevy problem, especially in there 1/2 and 3/4 ton truck, good luck man!!!!

I had to go through this exact deal, my buddy was leaving for a week and he was paying my money to completly go through his truck and get it good again. I had a week for everything, and it took my almost 4 days to just do that steering gear:mad:

Good luck man:awesomework:

Thanks to all,I just ordered a new box and pump frpm Westbay. I'll try the pump first then the box. I'll let you guys know what the problem was.(if that fixes it):D

The fawkin rig is fixed (yea) it turned out to be the pump.Thats because it was the cheapest ,so why not try it last after installing the more expensive parts.  (thanks for all the ideas and help)
