I swore off drag racing a few years back. I had very little to no interest in cars and I've had a ton of fun trail riding so getting back into it was not in the cards.

I had the chance to buy a yfz450 that belonged to a friend of mine who passed away 6 years ago and honestly I never had closure and looking back his passing and my early retirement from mustangs coincided.

The bike is a 2008 yfz450

Dg pipe
Alba racing nerf bars
Jet kit
Fcr o ring mod

Soon after cleaning the carb and rejetting I noticed a water pump leak.

I put a new water pump shaft , seals , oil filter and some rotella t6

I didn't want to trail ride it like we use to , it end up rolling down a hill or two and hurt my feelings. So me and cash rode it around the pasture some.

Around May/June I caught wind of a 300' dirt drag opened back up 20 minutes or so from the house. One Saturday night we decided to ride out and check out what was going on , talked to the track owner and it was a really comfortable - familiar feeling. We had a blast watching and I was Itching to take the yfz to see what it'd run.

The next weekend we took a couple fourwheelers up there and I had a great time

This was the best pass to date.

I stated a mod list and expected et .... That's where the project 4.9 comes in. I went a 5.60 , which isn't terrible for a fat boy on stock suspension and mx tires. But that 4.99 time slip will be nice.

I started researching and planning.

In the past few weeks even a couple of them bad boy bouncers showed up to play in the dirt.

I like that bike. I miss my 2004 a lot. If the right yfz came up for sale I think i'd have to snatch it up.

I would love one of the fuel injected versions.

While browsing eBay for parts I ran across a chromoly chassis
Drag banshee - in Alabama - no reserve - with a low bid

I joking told my wife I'll end up buying this unit.

The auction ended while heading to the beach and i bid last minute, thinking i was just going to drive the price up and BAM! I bought a banshee off eBay.

Now this thing was supposed to have a 4mil stroker with aftermarket cylinders... I reviewed the pictures he sent and I noticed right off it had stock cylinders. But even if it was a stock engine I was way ahead of the game with all the parts it had.

Got it home and the next day I was going over a few things and noticed the tank leaking terribly. Ole Clint tigged it up for me and it was time for a test pass or two on the highway In front of the house.

Yup - had to pull the engine. It had some shifting issues. Also, it was a good chance to break it down and know for sure what I was working with.

While down I found a broke shift fork and it has a set of standard bore wiesco's and a stock stroke crank - 349cc. At this point I had a choice to make. Build a stroker or put it back together like it is .........

Slowpny, Mike. I can't believe I never put this together. He was a damn good friend of mine, met him at UTI. I remember him telling me stories and your name coming up.

I helped him build that coupe out there, got pics of it torn apart on Triple D's showroom when we built the engine in it. I'll post them up later. We had a lot of fun, too much most times.

A couple new shift forks - new clutch and springs - new clutch lock up - gasket/seal kit - gearing change and some borrowed dirt tires. It's ready for the track.

How is it without a wheelie bar? You gonna bring it to the HL ride? :rolf: Ill rock it as long as someone will take me to the hospital afterward.

Re:

Didn't look like the front end was picking up too bad.....how light was the steering @71 mph?

This is by far the best thread on HL.
This bike is soooo cool.
Piper you tamed that wild beast, you are such a MAN.
I love all the custom touches this bike has. From the flames, to the seat it screams riotousness.

It was spinning till 2nd gear then it started to come up a little bit but it wasn't bad. I was surprised it ran strait as an arrow and now that I got the warped rotor and new pads she'll stop :dblthumb:
