I'd like to switch my Jeep 258 I6 over to propane. Is it cost effective to piece it together? If so, does anyone have the part numbers I need? Or is it better to just order the kit from Gotpropane?

got propane is expensive but good.. everything will work right the first time with no rebuilding. I would say just buy it it will payoff in the long run.

my $.02:cool:

Gotpropane is the most expensive but by far the easiest solution. And Cary is AWESOME to deal with :awesomework: All his stuff is redone with upgraded silicon seals and **** as well.

He's where I got my 258 kit and I was very pleased.

If I had the spare change, I'd go that route as well. "New" stuff means less to deal with and you get all the parts and pieces = less running around.

Thats said I'm going to have to piece my crap togethe, sure it will be cheaper, but take more time and more effort.

Propane

I have Cary's stuff waiting to go on the big block in the new buggy. Very nice action he puts together. As for the expense, I really don't think it was to expensive considering the ease of use and comparison to the cost of a good fuel injection system.

Propane was way more popular up here in Canada than in the USA so we are pretty much use to it. Propane pumps are at gas stations just like a gas pump my 87 Chevy was on propane with a 454. It ran really well used a mixer on top of the stock 1st gen fuel injection. It used the throttle body to do all the computer stuff and the mixer just feed the propane straight into the throttle body. The downside was a serious lack of power in the big block. The average mixer is 300-400 cfm so not near enough air flow for the big engine so towing really sucked.
Also traveling in the USA was a bit of a pain - U-haul was my best bet for fuel most of the time but I ran two 40 gallon tanks so I had pretty good range.
I had a water pump come loose in the winter once and the loss of hot water froze the propane system. I managed to limp it back to town at an idle - took a while to travel the 40 miles thats for sure.
I removed it after that and converted it back to gas - for the towing more than anything else.
I have a buddy running a 454 on propane but he uses twin mixers so 800cfm and it runs awesome.
