I'm setting up my system and was wondering what lockoff you're using...

I have both, a vff30 vacuum and a 12v electric...

Just trying to figure out which one to go with...

Thanks...

For the two runs I've used it, and countless garage testing, no issues with my vacuum unit.

That said, if I stay with LPG, I have the idea of running (2) 12V lock-offs on two separate hoses going to two tanks. Putting them through SPDT switch on the dash. That way I can switch between tanks "on the fly" rather than moving the hose.

Vacuum requires no wiring, plus I had it. So it got used first :D

Oh ya, flush the coolant system on your motor VERY WELL if your no confident its pretty clean.

My last run I boiled the motor briefly, and haven't taken it apart to verify yet but I'm 99% sure it pucked a bunch of crap out of the block and clogged the vaporizer. Dealing with a freezing reg on the trail is and exercise in futility. Mount things in such a way that you an remove components easily to work on them without pulling a bunch of other crap (I didn't, and have to remove the cab and reg to work on the back side of my reg/vaporizer)

How close is your vaporizer to the engine???

I was told that the closer the better, that way you have less chance for it to freeze up...

Coupled to the mixer with a close nipple. So about as close as you could get :D. But also put it right at the hight of the rad. So any air bubble in the system could cause me issue.

New location will use a piece of hose and bring it down more to the level of the heads.... and a block flush :D

If you haven't rebuilt the Vaporizer (assuming used), good idea to. Mine worked, but I rebuilt it any and it was pretty nasty. Rebuild kit was like $60, but easy to do and piece of mind.

I had to put a new gasket on the bottom plate tonight...

It was spitting coolant everywhere when I first started it...:redneck:

And yeah, it was the first time ever that I tried to start it...

One bump of the starter and it was running...:D

For you propane guys. When winter comes and its in the freezing temp range. Once you start your trucks, leave them running. I was working on a certain fleet last winter that ran lpg on gm bigblocks and the trucks would get fired up early in the morning and moved then shut off immediatly after being ran. it never failed...the vaporizer would always freeze and required lots of heat to un freeze. Was just a nightmare

Yeah I've heard that...

I was thinking of a way to heat it... Maybe a small block heater... Or steal a heating element out of something with heated seats...

I don't have any problem with the vaporizer, now the valve at the tank freezing during a COLD day of wheeling. That's another story, 12v blanket, hand warmers and the ends of the tanks stuffed with towels is the only way I could play in the snow last winter.

I ran my truck with LPG in Calgary in winter. My car on gas ran fine, but at 40 below, 10 minutes after shutting it off, it wouldn't turn over fast enough to start! (straight 30W)
