Propane

Looking at a 2700 sq. ft. house that runs heat, water heater, and stove off of propane. In 2006, the family used 1,200 gallons. Right now propane is 2.25/gal.
Talk to me. What do you know about Propane vs. Natty Gas or all Electric?

It does not have a heat pump. That would run about $3-4K to add.
I was also told $10-15k to switch to all electric.

You could leave water heater and stove on propane if you wanted. If it was me I would definitely go heat pump on heat (savings would be huge compared to propane) I would also go with electric stove. I would keep water heater and install gas logs. This way you still would have hot water and some heat if you lost power. You would need to make sure your electrical service is large enough to handle the extra load of the heat pump and stove if you go that route.
My main problem with the propane stove is the yellowing of the walls and ceiling.

If it is yellowing the walls, you must have vent free logs or heater and are not providing enough fresh air, or smoke in the house.

So you use 1,000 gal/year with a heat pump? In Alabama?

Figured the thread was that smelly **** burned in buggys. I just saw it. Yellowing ceiling is from incomplete combustion or an inproper vent. The kitchen range should burn blue with just a little yellow on the tips. Vent free gas logs are a great way of zone heating. If you decide to go that route, call me. I can save you quite a few $$$. My early buy propane last year was $2.08. This year it is $2.58. My daughter, that does not use as much is closer to $3.00. I use about $4,200.00 per year in propane. But I have a lot of **** burning:

yea my down stairs is about 1300sqft and has a 3 ton gas and up stairs and bonus rooms are on heat pumps but upstairs hardly ever runs due to the great heat from the lower gas package
in addition we run a rinnai gas tankless water heater and dual fuel range(gas top eletric oven), and occasionally run ventless gas logs in living room because they are pretty but will roast your ass if left on too long
but it is a new house with good insulation and windows too if that makes much of a difference
