Do HAVE to pull the tranny/t-case to swap out 22re's? 'm just trying to save me some extra work just to swap out motors! Can I just crib up or support the tranny instead of pulling?

How does the motor mounts fit in to the frame? Can I slide them forward if I unbolt them? I'm just trying to make things simple! Thanks!

That's a definite no. In fact, I'm not sure it would be possible to pull the 22r with tranny/t-case attached out of the truck without cutting the core support.

Remove starter and all the bell housing bolts and you're golden. The two on the top are the PITA ones... get a ratcheting 17mm wrench and prepare to spend some quality time with your hand between the motor and firewall.

Drop the tranny end down temporarily or remove motor mounts and lower engine with hoist.

I always hook the hoist up I pull the engine mounts like Skrause said. I usually support the bell housing with a rachet strap between the frame rails while pulling the engine.

Sweet, that's what I was thinking, since this is my first engine pull! I was thinking after I posted about lifting the motor and pulling the mounts, then lowering and pulling the bellhousing bolts!

I had gotten fresh with some top bolts on my nissan getting the tranny out for rebuild one time! So, I know about how frustrating those top bolts can be! I'll buy the racheting wrench on that!

what year truck? i have an easier time with the pita top bolts cause i have a 2"BL on my truck. but it is possible to pull the motor/tranny/trans in one fail swoop, but way too much work IMO

Actually, this aint so bad. If all you gota do is replace the motor then maybe it ain't worth leaving it attached to the trans. But, if you have to get the motor/trans/t-case out or in a truck its easier to swing the whole thing at once. Just my opinion...

THe top bolts are easy to get if you have about 2 ft of extension and a wobbly. I dont know what good a rachet wrench would do you, I think they are recesed into the bell housing.

I have never pulled a 22re but the tranny is easy.

The ratchet goes on the end of the 2' of extensions. :fawkdancesmiley:
