I've got a 79 cj7 w/ a 360, TH400, and quadratrac (w/o 4-low). I've so far had no luck finding just the reduction unit at any local yards or online as a new or refurbished replacement part. The closest I've found so far is a full case w/ the reduction unit attached at oly4x4. Anyone on here have a reduction unit they're looking to get rid of, or know of where I may have more luck finding one? My case is still quiet and clunk-free and seems to be in good condition, so I don't want to replace the whole case if I don't need to.

I've also seen a couple adapters for the th400 to a model 300 or 18/20. Seems like after you get the adapater and one of those cases, though, you're out almost $1k. Any big advantage to going that route that might make it worth the $$? I don't drive the jeep much on the road, it'll mostly be sunny days when i can go topless or to get to the trails, not a daily commuter.

Replace that turd with a 20 or a 300. If you're interested my neighbor is parting out a older wagoneer with a 360/th400/20. I know for a fact that it all worked, heck it is all still in the rig for that matter, it still runs. $500 will get you anything you want off the rig. Drivelines, rear centered 44, closed knuckle 30 whatever you want.

hmm, i may be interested in that. how does that 44 match up to the model 20 as far as width, spring mounts, etc? In other words, how much work is it to mount up the d20/44 setup under my cj? If I went with the d20 case, does that match up with the offset on the front d30 I've already got?

I never had this many options when I was wheelin a yota.....

ummm yes. I usually don't make it south of tacoma more than about twice a year, but I just happen to be working in Kelso on Wednesday. Meet Wednesday afternoon sometime?
