Did you put your pinion where the rockwell pinion was or did you offset it further from center for any reason? I would think if you put the pinion where the rockwell pinion was you'd be guaranteed that everything would clear since it occupies less space and is lower than the rockwell was. Can't think of any reason I would want to offset it further other than just to match a more conventional 1-ton factory front end for the sake of convention.

Re:

Seems like you'd want to slam it as far to one side as possible to gain axle "break over angle" ground clearance

Further over you go though the less axle tube you have to work with and the more potential the driveshaft has of hitting links during travel. These chunks are big enough to where a few inches one way or the other isn't going to make much of a a difference in ground clearance.

I'm going to do a HP60 front with Currie HP70 gears. Just wanting to loose weight and shorten my wheelbase a hair which the rockwells don't leave me space to do. Also something I've always wanted to do, had started once, had to sell, and am fortunate enough to get a second chance at now.

Re:

Rockwell shafts, I think 3-400 lbs will be possible between both axles.

Can not see why it wouldnt be the best way to go. Only person i remember see do it that way was tim bacons old rig when he swapt to tons.
