Hey Guys, Quick question regarding a high steer conversion for my 1980 Yota..

I only need the High Steer crossover kit and Steering box mounting kit right?

I can use my stock Steering box off the truck?

Or do I need to get a IFS Steering box?

You have to use an IFS box. Your stock box arm moves front to rear, whereas an IFS box arm moves left to right.

You also done NEED the mount kit, if you have the skills and ability to build your own. I would suggest you get plates to brace the frame with as well. May not NEED them, but why not overbuild it while you're there. Dont forget to sleeve the frame as well so you dont crush it when you tighten the bolts.

Sweet, thats what I thought just wanted to double check. Sorry for my noob posts. Just excited that I finally got the money to do what I want lol.

What do you mean by sleeving the frame?

I've been looking at the trail gear mount kit:

Yeah, it has the sleeves you need. Thats the same one I used, and I also used their high steer kit. The "sleeves" are those pieces of tube between the plates. You drill the frame big enough for those to pass through, then weld it all in place. It just keeps the sides of the frame from squishing together when you tighten the bolts because youre tightening lengthwise on the tube rather than directly onto the sides of the frame.

The only thing I did, was grind the plates "custom" to make them shorter so I could move the box forward further. You want the box as far forward as you can get it (I cut into the core support and moved it pretty damn far forward). The idea behind this is to keep the tie rod behind the drag link through the suspension cycle, otherwise on compression the tie rod and drag link could hit. I wanted mine really far forward too since after I get new springs up front, they will move the axle forward. So, I planned ahead and moved it far enough forward now for the future springs.
