I see what you are saying with the KISS principle but I also at the same time if something happen's to that ram you want to be able to seal/take it off easily. I could see on a full hydro setup where you depend on hydraulics for steering you wouldn't want this but on an assist setup the ram can be easily removed and you on your way.
