so i saw in a recent Crawl Mag, an eastside customs truck, with a "bed" mounted radiator, i was going to use exhasut tubing for the pipe ruinning from the motor to the radiator, but i saw they used a thick looking rubberish hose. does anyone know where to get this stuff, or what it is. i think i might go this route instead of trying to weld up some tubing to run along the frame rails, plus the stretching and compressing and all that movement wont be so much of an issue.

thanks,
Aaron

Just call Jason at ECT and ask.

we use exhaust tubing for the long runs and flexy hoses for most of the bends then cover it with fire hose in case of breakage. works great.

what type of fire hose? is it kinda like roll bar padding where you slide it over and tape it? what type of flexy hose do you use?

Fire hose, like the kind they use on fire trucks and fire fighting equipt. You can find it at surplus stores. flexy type radiator hoses that you can get at shucks or buy a good collection at pull apart with lots of differant bends for a few bucks

Aaron,
When I did mine I just ran exhaust tubing, bent the tubing to fit in. Ran a short straight piece of rubber in the middle of the tubing, and some pieces at the radiator and motor connections. Don't weld the tubing to any part of the frame, just mount it with exhaust tubing mounts. Jim said to run fire hose over the rubber parts, this is to protect anybody around if you burst the rubber hose. You will need to drill a small hole in your thermostat, like 1/8 inch to help the system bleed the air out. I also put in a zirk fitting on top of my thermostat housing so that I could manually bleed it up front rapidly if for some reason I had to after a refill in the field. I covered my hose portions because of PNW4WD rules, but left the metal parts uncovered so that they could also help in cooling it. The rubber sections I used formed hose for, bought two hoses with bends in them and just cut them. Have never had a problem overheating. I have probably 3-4 times the volume of the stock system with the larger radiator and tubing.

You can get a full rubber hose at a place like Williams oil company in Tacoma but I don't think I would want to pay that much for how much it would take to do it.
