How difficult is it to swap out the read end for some disc brakes instead of drum? Also, because the only rear disc brake vehilce I've driven is an 83 Maxima, what can I expect in stopping power after a change like this?

Asking, because if you see my avatar, you'll see that I'm just about wheel well deep in the puddle (pond?) on Isabelle, so the drums in the rear are drowning. It takes a bit for them to dry out, and when you're going downhill, it can get a tad spooky when you're not stopping like you want to. Don't want to help anyone, that might be in front of me, down any hill.

alot of companies make a rear disk brake kit... allpro is were i bought mine... if you search pirate right you can get all the part numbers for schucks and save some cash... i didn't find this out until after i had my kit. metric gm single piston calipers. came on many old gm halftone trucks... there are tons of aplications and differant ways you can go as far as calipers and rotors. check out allpros website

I saw that the kit is kinda pricey too. $500. Not sure what's included with it yet. I'm gonna write them.

I ran their set-up, They have everything you need, one stop shopping. I would much rather go thru them than all-poo.

You will be very happy with the gained stopping power, Just beware you should swap yer master cyl for a fj80 style(designed for 4wdb) and you may want to add a proportioning valve too. also, the only way to get parking brakes is t get the caddy calipers(more$$$)

Ive got a samurai, but it has all Toyota running gear. I went with a set of IFS calipers and vented rotors up front, and took the stock front disk stuff and put in the back. It was easy for me as I went with a Front Range Offroad full floater kit at the same time that allowed for the mounting of the rotors in the rear. At the same time I upgraded my master cylinder and power booster from an FZJ80. The damn thing will lock up those 38's on the highway!!!

I did the same thing, love it. :clappy: But go with minitruck calipers, the supra ones suck once they get a little wet and dirty.

3/4ton 6 bolt chevy disks is what alot of people use, they require some machining to make them fit right.

They came ina thick and thin version, pretty sure most use the thin version.

then its a matter of fabbing some caliper mounts.
