Picked up a 350 Vortec last night for a good deal. Next ride will be built with a 383 stroker on propane. Ive seen some NASTY stroker motors on here. What are some good recipes for building one? Planning on using the Vortec heads and the roller cam block. What stroker kits are you guys having luck with? Any need for Ibeam or Hbeam rods, steel crank, etc? I know you can run some pretty good compression ratios with the pane. Discuss!

Eagle 383 Balanced Rotating assembly is hard to beat.

I've seen them various places from $700-900 depending on variables

I built one about 5 years ago, if you have some good heads, and have them flowed and portmatched with a hogged out intake you can make 500hp naturally aspirated. I know nothing about Propane or propane assessories so I dont know which CR works best but you can get the Rotaing assembly in 8.7:1, 9.7:1, or 10.0:1

Steer clear of the pane! Use the stock injection if that's what it takes and you'll b happier

I used a atk stoker in my buggy very happy with it.
One thing I was very adamant about was a roller valvetrain. I believe it makes more of a difference than just about any other upgrade when building a motor for are applications.
Overall Hp does not change significantly, but the way it is delivered does.

Why you guys so down on the pane? seems that 80% of the rigs on here are running 383 strokers and running propane. Im not a fan of wiring and computers.

FIlling the bottles is a bitch, finding somewhere to fill the bottles is a bitch. Paying $30.00 to get a bottle filled is a bitch. If you got the wiring harness and computer for the vortec it isnt that hard, trust me i am a retard when it comes to wiring and i figured it out. Jims performance is probably the cheapest and most simple way to go. :****:

you lose alot of power with propane... and it stinks

You only lose about 20-25 hp its not that big of a drop. Who is going to be able to feel 25hp anyways. If you build the motor to have 475hp on gas you will be happy with the 450 that you get out of the propane. Its a cheap mans fuel injection. If thats what you got then run it but if you have the $2500 for fuel injection then buy that. I have a sbc 406 on propane and i love it!!!! Yes its a pane getting the tanks out and getting them filled but $24 to fill the tank is cheaper then race fuel at $5.50 a gallon for me anyways. Also propane like higher compression because it dont burn as fast as gas the higher compression helps make more heat to burn the fuel. A 383 with eagle or scat crank and rods I beam will be fine as long as you get the cap screw rods with your Vortec heads it will be had to make over 450 hp but 450 should be enough motor to do what ever you need. Good luck with the build. post your motor build. loller.gif

If your running pane go with alot of compression thats where the power is at. Thats where everyone loses alot of power with it then blames it on the propane. At least 12 to 1. I've always made alot more usable power running alot of compression with cams in 270 or so duration, gas or propane it will make it a torque monster.

Well everytime I go to Youtube and type in Aetna buggy for my daily hard on I see a Jimmy Smith buggy with a 383 stroker and a pane tank strapped in the back of it..........I have not seen ONE that looked like it lacked a ****in thing in the power department! I didnt even get the intake with the Vortec motor, basically a long block with accesories on the front.
