Anybody on here have the hookup on rental cars? We're planning a trip to the beach and trying to save a few bucks here and there.

Rental cars are pretty stupid low already, why would you need a deal on it?
Monday it was $271 for the week. Today, $600

Re:

Most major credit cards provide insurance coverage for domestic car rental, so you don't have to buy the insurance through the rental car company. Makes rental cars dirt cheap

Also check with your insurance company, some offer a discount at certain places, including rentals I think.

We have Farm Bureau and they used to offer a bunch of diffrent discounts with certain other businesses. Not as much as they used to but its whrth a shot.

Also if your a AAA member or some other organization, you might have discounts you didnt know of.

If you have an AMEX try booking through their travel benefit. I use it quite a bit.

I have been very mean to rental cars. One mitsubishi in particular involved 40 mph donuts in the dirt and a 4 ft wide ditch. :woot:

Kayak.com has good rates. Last time I needed a last minute one-way rental all the rental chains wanted $50-60 per day and a one-way drop fee of $200. Kayak was $30 per day and no drop fee.

I think we ended up finding one through my father in laws hotel rewards points. Saved us about 175. Not bad for a van for July 4th week.

And now we know the rest of the story. There's why the price went up. You're booking a busy week. Hopefully you've already made arrangements for the beach.

Also, you're price checking twice in one week, that could have affected your quote. The rental saw that suddenly there is a lot of interest in booking so supply and demand takes over.

I'll admit I neglected to mention the July 4th part. Only because I didn't think about it. I've never rented a car around a holiday. Minor brain fart. As for checking it twice, once from my phone, other was from the wife's computer. It probably still saw the traffic either way. Lesson learned.

We booked somewhere to stay as soon as we got back from our vacation last year. We went down to st Augustine the same week last year for a wedding. Beautiful beaches that were empty all week. Even on July 4, I bet there wasn't 50 ppl on our mile stretch of beach.

Hey man, I was just informing as to a lot of times the number of requests determines a quote.

I've noticed big price differences and found that it has a lot to do with how many items are available and if extra expense could be involved to meet an order. Whether it be OT in production or getting a car from another location.

That's a nice area and maybe there won't be a big crowd this year also.

oh I know man. I was just messing around. I've heard that about those sites too. I'm sure that's partly the case.

I can't wait man. There's a bbq place down there called mojo's that's incredible. Best brisket I've ever had.

Mojo's is one of my favorites. There are several in NE FL, each a different vibe or specialty. If you're a whiskey guy, stop at the one in Jacksonville in Riverside/Avondale on your way down. I think it's Mojo No. 4. Great selection and same great BBQ.

Sure do. Live near downtown in Jax. I'll actually be in St. Auggy tomorrow at a Wheelers For The Wounded fundraiser tomorrow.

Good deal. I'll have to holler at you when we come down. We stay in crescent beach. I'll be hunting for some good fishing spots and some good food if you know of any.
