I had to pull my tranny because of the case being cracked. While I have it out I plan on replacing the rear main seal on my 5.2L but also I have a freeze plug on the rear of the block that is leaking. So how do you take one out? and then what prep do you do before you put the new one back in? And then how do you install the new freeze plug? Since this is behind the bellhousing I want to make sure this is done right.

use a big screwdriver or a punch and a hammer to turn it in its hole then grab it with a pair of visegrips or such and pull it out. clean up the hole and coat the new plug with sealent and drive it in using a socket that fits the cup of the plug. make sure you drive it in square to the block and yer done:cheer:

Sheetmetal screw and slide hammer to remove. I've seen RTV type sealant used when replacing, not sure if that's the best or not for that application. Socket that fits inside the plug and a BFH to install
