Rig Requirements for the Hammers?

What is required to get around the Hammers? Tire size? lockers F/R? is it mild rig friendly? How much could you do in a stock TJ? Is a fully built rig a must? How far can you get in your tow rig? What kind of rigs are you guys bringing with besides buggies? As KOH get's closer, finishing my buggy in time and working out the bugs just isn't going to happen. But i'm still going and will bring something else instead, just looking for some advice on rig requirements.
 
There is alot of soft sand. You can drive a stock 4x4 to the bottom of the canyons and watch. Something with lockers, 33s, good driver and a winch can do about 1/2 the trails.

A stock TJ will be fine to get around and watch the racing. You probably won't want to run any of the "hammer" trails, but there is stuff like Fissure Mtn. that is suited to stock stuff.
 
Most of the trails arent really all that hard. The average wheeler would do fine there but expect body damage mostly in rocker panels.

As rick said--if you are carefull you can take alot of easy routes but yes expect your underside to get fully raped with occasional rock rash on the side of your rig.
 
I have ran most of the original trails in toyota's with 35-36" tires, front and rear lockers Longfields and dual cases... Just got to drive smart.

24 hours of driving there , running some trails with no sleep, then going out a second time the same night while I was falling asleep at the wheel was not a good idea. My stock rear toy tcase output wasn't happy. :mad:
 
Im bringing my cherokee and a buddy is bringing his fully built toyota. Im hoping to do some wheelin so if anyone wants to go explore im down i have four seats to so if anyone needs a seat.

I fully remember that day/night :haha: Thats ok I broke my winch line in the same spot :fawkdancesmiley:
 
someone told me that if you are invited to run 'such and such' trail, don't.

what trail is it that would be a bad idea? I can't remember the name now.

I don't know of any trail there that would be a bad idea but "Full of Hate" is my favorite trail there and if your rig isn't built well I wouldn't try it.

Outer limits, wrecking ball are 2 that come to mind that have something I would consider aggressive that you cannot bypass..

On which trail is it that that waterfall messed with so many competitors on the KOH 09 video. The course went up it and it ended up putting people front over back onto their lids or sides.

I believe that was near the top of wrecking ball--only spot on that trail thats not bypassable. Its not hard except when you break the adapter for your t-case :haha:.
