I've used OEM, Spicer, Yukon, Superior, Nitro, and Precision gears in circle track, drag and offroad vehicles and in forty years have never had a gear failure. (I'm sure I just Jinxed myself) I know the NASCAR and sprintcar guys use cryo treating apparently with great success. That said, I believe that a good quality gearset that is PROPERLY set up should stand anything that 383 could throw at it. One set of broke gears? Who knows. Two sets? something else is going on. Poor setup, bent housing, crummy bearings, contamination? I know you don't abuse your stuff so I'd guess incorrect setup.
