Put my adorable 12+ yo German Shepherd down Saturday. It's been a great 10+ years and she will be dearly missed. :( Her hips were failing and walking was too difficult. Mind was sharp as a tack still which made it really tough. Go chase them cats ol' girl!

Hate to hear that, I've got a dog that's about 14 and has started having problems walking within the past coupla months. I know its coming and it's gonna be rough. :'(

She's been through a lot with you, big D, Houston with that deal, back to Iowa, I'm happy to have known her. I read that you were going to have to in the Friday thread and didn't know what to say. Its been 9 years since our amazing shepherd died, and we have yet to replace him. That **** is hard

Yup and it will not be replaced with another shepherd either.

My family always had German Shepards groing up. It wasnt until my neighbor in Manhattan introduced me to the Weimaraner's.
I'm glad for the switch except the shedding.

Shorthair, so no trimming needed. But they shed.
Smart, do not understand that they are dog. Did I mention smart. My sisters dog opens sliding doors, my dog used to open the fridge.
And they self regulate on food, unlike Labs or Goldens.

Yeah your dog is great too Wyatt. Yeah most dogs will shed, but short hair vs long hair like Chloe would not be as bad (I wouldn't think)

Hate to hear that Bones. My yellow lab is starting to have problems walking and jumping. I can tell some days she is in a lot of pain. I give her one ibuprofen tablet a day which has helped her a lot with the pain. Hopefully she will make it a few more years. I know her body is going to go before her mind though... :'(

Yeah my vet had her on Tamadol which is doggie morphine and it helped some, but it was just a band aid. Might want to try it. It was really cheap too

We have a 7-year-old lab who has bad hips. He's been the best, most loyal, great dog. I hope he can hold out forever but he's going gray pretty quick and I can't help but think about how lonely the house and his little brother are going to feel without him when the time comes. He takes Rimadyl when they are really hurting him and gets a shot every month. Right now they are working good but I notice he's getting slower and slower to go fetch the ball nowadays and his little brother now beats him to the ball out in the water 7 out of 10 times. I watched I Am Legend last night too and I couldn't even watch the part where he has to put his dog down. Funny how I can watch people get torn to shreds by vampires without flinching but can't even think about the poor dog dying. There's a reason they are called "man's best friend."

Chloe knows what was up and she understands. She loves you eternally and will be staring at the door waiting for you to walk through when your time comes.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about. I had an 8 year old english bulldog , he was like my best friend. I cried like a baby when I buried him.

This is my Weimeraner. He will be a year old on October 1st. They are good dogs, but wide open all the time.

Sorry for your loss Chris. Lost our yellow lab Molly two years ago and that broke my heart... Dogs are great and a part of the family---or in your case ARE your family.

Give it a couple years after 3-4 years they settle down. In my family we currently have 4, and my mom is on her second.

Here is my female Cede, she's 7 now.

Having grown up with German Shepards I love how smart they are and alert. Great watch dogs and great friends. The Weimer is the same, just more clingy but without hip displacia.

Bones, I'm still sorry about Chloe dog. Losing a dog I think is harder than losing someone you know.
