Rock ledge on the 519

This is the best, most challenging obstacle at Evans. There is an easy bypass trail just above it that is passable in 2wd. There is talk about filling in the v notch with quarry spals like they did to the beginning of the 311. Why would a club want to do this?

Unfortunately, there are others don't share your idea of fun and want to change that specific part of the trail system.***

I can't believe that there is a person in a place like this that believes that PAVING a trail is the right idea. I think the highest priority for Evans Creek ORV is to get it opened back up all year round not to take out an obsticle on a trail that already has a LEGAL bypass.

I went to the recent PNW region meeting, and the issue of mitigation of that ledge was specifically brought up. And there was a vote of the member clubs in attendance. It was Unanimously voted, that all the clubs recommended NO repairs, paving, blasting, etc. of that spot. That if anything was done, was to simply put signs at both sides, recommending those not equipped use the legal bypass.

I was at this meeting with Tony. The Eldorado Dust Devils raised the issue during this meeting and all PNW4WDA Region 2 clubs in attendance voted against making changes to this obstacle.

I think adding some warning signs would be a simple solution :awesomework:

"Caution, Obstacle Ahead" - you better print lots of these

"Caution, Remove any object from your ass, Pucker factor ahead"

"Fun obstacle ahead, have your winch bitch get out and film it"


Maybe I'm missing something. What 'problem' are they trying to solve? Have lots of people been getting hurt here?

I'm not sure that is absolutely correct.

It seems to me that signs would help them reduce liability.

Every ski area in the nation posts signs, informing you what to expect on every 'trail' they operate, including closed areas. S.O.P.

I think its a reaction to the recent deaths in the trail system...look for spots that might be an issue and mitigate the risk. When I spoke to Derrick on the phone, I asked if anyone has been hurt at this spot. No. I suggested maybe leaving the trail alone and placing signage would be enough...similar to what is at the top of Chicken **** at Rimrock. He said he would take the feedback to the FS. The good news we should all be excited about is that all the clubs at the last PNW4WDA Region 2 meeting were against making any changes to the trail. No paving. No blasting. No rock fill.

:awesomework: this. He was just looking at preventing another death which is certainly a possibility at this spot. We have discussed signing the entry's to this spot but I don't know why the FS has not done so as yet. All that is needed is a marker similar to what's all over the forest showing easy or most difficult.
