If I'm not mistaken, Rockwells do not have springs in the king pins to keep it all preloaded. I have some shims I have to put in a set but I was wondering if anybody knew what kind of tolerance I am supposed to be looking for? 3 of the four knuckles have a good bit of slop in them right now. Any help is greatly appreciated! ;D

That's correct. Rockwells do not have springs in the kingpins to keep it all preloaded.

As far as the tolerance, I am not quite sure, but they are supposed to be tight. I've seen some guys hammer them on (the new brass bushings) and the knuckle took a fair amount of effort to turn. As long as you can them with the new bushings, then I would say they aren't too tight.

That is how I did mine and I've had success so far, but then again, I haven't driven mine too far (yet, first outing is from Birmingham south to the coast) and haven't convinced anyone that my Yoat is worth "welderin'."

You have to buy new brass bushings to get them tight again, but sometimes with the new bushings, some material needs to be removed to get them to fit....

Sorry, slop is up and down, not like the bushings are wore out. Spacers go on before the caps go back on.

Just talked to Randy Ouverson. No real tolerances that he could recall prolly gonna try to shoot for around .005" maybe a little more. :dunno:

Thanks for the info and keep us updated.

My axles see no abuse, so I haven't had to replace anything due to that, but atleast I will know if I get to "raisin' a ruckus one day...."

ok so have yall started swapping my motor into his buggy yet so we can go riding really really soon. ;) ;)
