Explain something. Why did all the sports channels keep flashing that ALABAMA only had 7 national titles before this game?

It is because the others came before the AP Poll existed. So we just claim those since we won a certain bowl game or finished undefeated. It use to be that whoever won the big bowl game was the champion back in the 20's and 30's. Look at schools like Yale and Harvard they claim 28 or so titles, but they were all won between 1870 and 1920 when not many schools or football teams existed. Also when the AP first came out champions were crowned before bowl games. So AL was the champ in 64 and lost the Cotton bowl while Arkansas was unbeaten and untied but did not win the championship because the title was given prior to bowl games. They changed that in 65.
