Roller fairlead

My dad did a goofy and in building his bumper he swapped out the haws fairlead (aluminum guide if that's the right term) for a roller. Abe has a synthetic line. When I asked him why he said cause he liked it. I never thought about it cause I never considered it but is there any reason he shouldn't do that?

It will tear up the rope as it gets caught in the corners.

Rollers are dumb, they lock up or bend and turn into a hawse with pinchy corners. :****:
