Running two propane tanks

Is there any reason I can't stack two tanks and use the top tank to hold the bottom in place and have a clamp on the top?

each tank needs to be strapped in good, you wouldn't stack gas tanks would ya?

: I understand the need for them to be secure, that wasn't what I was asking. If they couldn't move side to side or front to back, and you dropped both tanks into the mount from the top, would they need a saddle between them or can they touch each other?

It's a bomb yo! The whole time I ran propane with two tanks mounted in the back I looked at rocks and would think if I roll that point could rupture my tank. They don't need to rub but each to their own.

It would be pretty easy to make a couple of saddles from UHMW (or - if you're a true redneck - a 2x4 ;D ) just to be safe.

I am not sure what you are trying to do with the stacking but the tanks need to be securely strapped in to prevent movement or damage to the tanks. Do you have room to install twin brackets?

Also, your propane cylinders are not "bombs" . Propane is the safest motor fuel in existence as designated by the DOT. Gasoline is the most volatile.
You can shot a hole in a propane tank and the fuel will spew out but will not catch fire or explode.

Little too much last night to think or type clearly I have it figured out in my head now after a nights sleep,4 Advil and a couple v8s Altfuel,I plan on calling you later in the project to get the fittings to run two mixers so thanks in advance!

Buddy is 100% correct. Propane is way safer than gas. Do y'all remember the hillbilly deluxe rig goin up in flames. If that rig was on pane that wouldn't have happened. It being a vapor it would have dissipated before it could have ignited.

This is what I was talking about when I said stacking tanks. Obviously the mount isn't finished and I'm going to build a saddle between the two with a pin to locate the upper tank.

Gonna make a "floating" saddle??? I guess thats what you'd call it. The bottom tank will sit in a cradle and have a locating pin, then the "saddle will sit on top of it and the top tank sits on the saddle. There will be a clamp on the top pushing both tanks down.

yeah just wonder what to mold to saddle inbetween the tanks what i wondering? i got 10 gal tanks now instead 8 but still dont last me all day, i could stack 2 like what ur talking though
