So put my motor back together a couple months ago and everything went good as at least I thought. Hasnt been running the way I like so did some looking into. Pulled my distributor and could see the rear gasket was split and hanging into intake cavity. So pulled intake to find the front was also split in 2. The felpro kit came with 2 sets of front/rear gaskets.1 with rubber pegs that fit into small holes in ridge. The other has flaps that ride on the the outer edges of ridge. Any preferences? I used the pegged one first and obviously failed. All bolts were torqed to specs. Any install advice would help.

i just use a big fat bead of silicone. i never use there rubber gasket. i also let the silicone tac up a little before setting the intake back on. about 10 15 min.

^ x a gazillion

The rubber front/rear intake gaskets are really only useful on a virgin block that has never had any surfaces ever re-milled.

and even then they were never that great.

I have used RTV for the front/rears for many, many years without failures and I have built over 3000 engines over the years...

man, sometimes I miss working in that field... used to love building custom engines all balanced and beautiful...

hrm...

Ultra Grey, or Right Stuff; Lay about a 3/16" tall bead across each rail, and a bit under the edges of the gaskets in the corner, and torque her down...should end up with a slight bead pushing out from under the intake...

Can I still use the side gaskets? They are still stuck to the heads, havent touched them.

Yes the kit comes with two sets of rubber gaskets. I used the ones with the dimples, on one I did 3 weeks ago. Like people stated use right stuff on the block, let it get tacky, set the rubber gasket on, lay another little bead of right stuff on top of that. Ive done intakes a few times and Ive found this way keeps oil in the motor. I wouldn't use any silicone on the intake to head gaskets reason why is because I feel when its torqued down the silicone can go into the intake jackets and cause that **** to go within the motor, getting onto the valves. Everybody has ways of how they do it or the internet search. Its simple just take your time.

DONT use the rubbers at ALL, even with goop. NO rubbers. They either split or smash out, or blowby pushes them out later.

I like to put ultra grey around the cooling jackets aswell. NOT a huge bead just a fine smear with my finger. Those jackets are always pitted/rotten and need it. NEVER enough to smear away from the intended opening.

I have reused the side gaskets before if I just recently installed them. Just my 2 cents. I'm sure some people will say no but I have without issue.

Its a toss up on used gaskets. If they havent seen any heat and release with no damage, then its worth the chance if its MINE and easy to fix.

If its on new vortech rig thats not mine and not very fun to replace then HELL NO.
