So, I was wondering just how much weight I was actually hauling, as I drag stuff home the wife finds on Craigslist. (The rig does tow, but mostly when the son's Jeep dies).

So I stopped at the trucks scales right outside of Sultan. Son jumps out. Rig weighs 6440 lbs. Damn, that seems heavy. And without a load, yet. Before you ask, the door on the truck was replaced a while back, before I got the truck,so the sticker most likely isn't the right one.

So we go off to get our second load of dirt. I determine how much is too much by looking a the overload springs. When they start to flatten out, time to stop shoveling.

So, we get back to Sultan. Hang a u-turn into the scales. Son Jumps out again. 10,330 lbs. I have almost 2 tons of dirt in the bed of my truck. Heavy ass dirt. And it's just above the wheel wells. That's about a foot of dirt in an 8 foot bed.

This really makes me wonder how much the cement blocks I was hauling weighed in at. No, I'm not going to reload them.

mines just over 8k empty....
i was told that the palets of solid retaining block i got at HD were just over 2200 lbs each
so 4400 lbs is almost enough to get my overloads to touch w/ only 5psi in the bags.

my trucks a pig

8x8x16 weighs about 45 lbs each.

mines 7200 with nobody in it and 3/4 tank. Had 2.5 yards of gravel in it, I was told that's 2-2200 a yard. No overloads on my truck. So the bags had some air in em. Road level though.

Here's a chart that you can refer to for weights.

well either I'm doing the math wrong or that things wrong. Hell I've left costco with more weight then that :wtf: you tell the loader how much you want and they look at you like you're nuts. So somethings not quite right on that list.

Guess next time I'm going to run up 410 about a mile and throw it on the scale

Are you cracking smoke??? My dually weights 7300 lbs with diesel, w/o my fat ass!!! I had it load down with sand, over the tailgate and bed. I think the bumper was sparking all the way home.

Ford's are fat asses, seriously. I don't know what truck you have, But Fords are heavier then the other 2.

Smoking crack? no, drinkin lots of vodka to train my liver for our rematch, YES!

As Jeff said, my truck is a lard ass.

Looks about right... I always figure a 'yard' of gravel is about 1.5 tons (i.e. 3000 lbs). They show 1/4-2" (pretty close to any minus gravel) at between 105-120 lbs/cft... x 27 cft /cyd = 2835-3240 lbs... pretty close.

Remember, wet stuff is heavy!

wow, I was way off on my math.. haha. yea I screwed up somewhere. Holy crap, I was heavy. No wonder they looked at me like I was nuts.

Here's a little info. You guy's add air bags and after market springs. This will not help you if you get flagged into the scales. Your GVW does not change. I've been flagged in and my GVW is 16,000 and I was 100 over and she let me slide but the fines are big.

I have seen half ton trucks dragging their butts with more in their trucks than I have. Their tires are almost riding on the rims, and no doubt, steering is a big issue because the front is almost off the ground. There's a thread here with a guys Ford Custom with a camper on it, and the rear is so low.... He could really use the overloads/airbags just to keep his rig safe on the road. Not just for him, but the other people that want to use the concrete or asphalt.

My biggest problem with the weight is everyone seems to live at the bottom of a hill.

At least I know when I have enough on the truck.

The Airbags and overloads are there to keep the rig level and safer to drive. Without them, I'd be making more trips.

I know when to say when...
