ok so im pondering the idea of putting a 4.3 chev. vortec in my 89 runner. i have the donner car (aka) chev s10 blazer. what would i need to take electronicly to make it work in my 4runner. im on a tight budget so the less stuff i have to buy for it the better.

And donner is spelled DONOR (one n!):fawkdancesmiley:
Are you running the stock toy trans, or going with the chev trans??? You will need an adapter either way (either one to mate the stock trans to the new engine, or the new eng/trans to a toy case); Electrically you should have most everything you need from the donor (if it is complete)....

I'm in the middle of dropping a 95' 4.3 in my 89' Toy and it all adds up.
You can thin the factory harness if you are decent with wiring and have the time or buy an aftermarket harness. Alot of people Like Jims performance but I had a hard time getting a hold of him so I went with a howell harness. Affordable Fuel injection and Painless Performance both sell harnesses as well.
You will need to figure out the drivetrain as that adds up quick for adapters. I did a TH350 adapted to Toy 21spl cases. Alot of dicking around but not really anything difficult. There is a FAQ thread on PBB and YotaTech has some good build threads.

Good luck!

The Howell harness is money well spent. The adaptor(s) are going to be expensive part. If you're on a budget you can thin the harness and put the money towards adaptors. What trans are you going to use? A lot of people have put 4.3's in toys so somebody might have the correct adaptor and be willing to sell or trade. You can easily fab your own mounts and cross members. Look at others' build threads and take some ideas.

My buddy put a 95 4.3 with a t-350 in his runner with the Howell harness. it's tits. Im getting ready to order mine from Howell here pretty soon to drop a 98 4.3 with a 700r-4 in my 89 ext. cab. It's guna cost you about $500 for the harness and $200 to get the computer flashed, A little more if your guna want to run an electronic tranny behind it, my advice on that is don't.

i have the factory harness, i dont know how much of it to keep tho. For the drivetrain i was thinking about running the stock toyota 5 speed and t-case. im half tempted to part out the doner car and just get 22re because it would be faster.

yeah, it would be alittle easier to do the 22RE. I wanted the 4.3 power since I run 40's and didn't want to go from a V6 down to a 4cyl.

Just remember that if you had a 3.0 before, your R150F 5sp won't bolt up to a 22RE and I don't think your Tcase will bolt up to a 4cyl tranny either. So you'll need to do some research and decide what your best option is.
