I'd like some input because I'm trying to decided how to proceed with the pursuit of a buggy. Normally, I think I'd probably just sell my 1980 Jeep CJ5 as is but it's got good parts/powerplant/tranny, it seems like I'd save a lot of money if I were to transfer them to a tube chassis and sell the frame/body since they're in great condition.
What I'm thinking of taking out of the Jeep and fitting to a buggy: healthy 96 LT1, freshly rebuilt Th350, Dana 300 (twin stick/4:1), Dana 44 front w/ Warn shafts and ARB and Dana 60 rear w/ Moser/ARB, wheels/tires (new 38" M/T MTZ radials).
What I'd sell: CJ5 frame/body (set up for SOA, steering linkage, suspension, front/rear Warn bumpers, Mastercraft seats, autometer guages, soft top and bikini top
Do you think this is a good or bad way to go? I'm looking at this from what I think might be the most cost effective route.
Thank you in advance.
If it helps, my Jeep is below (some of you have seen it in person at Reiter last weekend).
