Sell whole or yank parts & sell frame/body?

I'd like some input because I'm trying to decided how to proceed with the pursuit of a buggy. Normally, I think I'd probably just sell my 1980 Jeep CJ5 as is but it's got good parts/powerplant/tranny, it seems like I'd save a lot of money if I were to transfer them to a tube chassis and sell the frame/body since they're in great condition.

What I'm thinking of taking out of the Jeep and fitting to a buggy: healthy 96 LT1, freshly rebuilt Th350, Dana 300 (twin stick/4:1), Dana 44 front w/ Warn shafts and ARB and Dana 60 rear w/ Moser/ARB, wheels/tires (new 38" M/T MTZ radials).

What I'd sell: CJ5 frame/body (set up for SOA, steering linkage, suspension, front/rear Warn bumpers, Mastercraft seats, autometer guages, soft top and bikini top

Do you think this is a good or bad way to go? I'm looking at this from what I think might be the most cost effective route.

Thank you in advance.

If it helps, my Jeep is below (some of you have seen it in person at Reiter last weekend).

Damn nice looking jeep, Why not sell it whole and use the money to start a buggy project. But your probably right since you will never get the money back out that you have into it.

Ask yourself a couple of things...

1. Have you become a good enough driver that you have outgrown the potential and possibilites of that vehicle? Is the vehicle holding you back...? Have you fully bonded with this Jeep and done things that make people scratch their head...all just from your understanding of its capabilites?

2. Are you ready to undertake the massive build that ensues with the building of a fully custom motor vehicle...?

Not many people understand this equation and fine balance...Not knowing you, that is all I ask.

I'd say yank the engine drop in a good 350 and sell it whole.
If you build a buggy you should build bombproof. Most of the parts on yopur Jeep arn't... so recycle the engine into the buggy and upgrade the trans (T400), T/C (Atlas/Stack), Axles (D60-Ft & 14-Bolt), Tires (42's min), etc, etc...

Just a :looser: nobodys opinion...

If the parts on the Jeep are what you want in a buggy then use them , couple reasons, you already have the parts and know the condition, there is a lot of little stuff you will need in a ground up machine build and you have it all right there , also will bypass all the running around picking up parts of unknown condition, also you can still use the jeep up untill you need the parts, when done somebody out there will buy a nice Jeep with a title in good shape minus parts,

Dont part that jeep out just to have a buggy. That thing is way to clean to part out. Sell it out right and save to build a buggy.
