So I am setting up some new springs in the back of my 86 4runner. I have some wagoneer 56" springs. How do I know where to put the front mounts? Do I just bolt up the rear shackles and rear springs eyes and lift the front of the springs to the frame and mount them where the shackle is straight up and down with no weight, or maybe a small angle towards the back? Any help would be appreciated. Even a few smart ass responces will be tolerated. :D

Need to know a few things.

Is the center pin hole centered or offset. Determine which way you want to run the springs if it is offset.

The front mount will be determined by the distance from the center pin to the forward mount to get the tire somewhat centered to your preference in the wheelwell.

Then measure along the main leaf to determine the true length when the spring is flat.

Now measure from your front mount location the distance you recorded of the flat main leaf. This will determine where the lower mount of the shackle will be at max compression. From there with whatever length your shackle is measure up and forward to where the shackle hangar will go.

Wa lah all done and you will get the most avalable travel out of your shackle. If the springs are real soft you may end up with a real steep shackle angle and not much uptravel, but a ton of downtravel.

Tack welds are your friend sometimes it's not as easy as measuring depending on the abuse the spring took in it's life. I'd start With mesuring the distance from the from spring eye to spring center pin on both the distance should be that difference. I'm sure if you search you'll find alot on that. Make sure you put a few tack welds on each side so they don't pop off.
