Anybody from the Tybee Island/Savannah area or spend alot of time there, I have a few questions. Ex ol' lady has a 5 year plan where SHE (and I know it's HER dragging everybody else along) is going to uproot her family and my 10 yr old son from Columbus Ohio (not that I have ANY problem with that) and move to Ga. Now she is lower middle class, so the probability of her ending up ON Tybee is low, or I would think, so she would probably end up in Savannah.

I have stopped and fueled in Savannah, and been to Ft Stewart, and my observation is that it gets dark pretty early there.

Question 1: Are there any good schools or neighborhoods for the middle class that's NOT >50/50 race diverse in the wrong direction?

Question 2: Does anyone have any hard numbers I can throw at her to change her mind?

Thanks in advance for any input. :dblthumb:

I spend a few weeks working in Savannah every year. The areas I work in are pretty dark but around Abercorn St., which is where the mall is doesn't seem to bad. Compared to places in the gulf, Tybee didn't seem to be that cool of a place. It's not somewhere I would live.

She's hung up on it. I just got back from Edisto Beach where I spent a week. My observation was, if you worked on that island, there's a 95% chance you're black. Alot of the cotton belt is that way. Savannah included. I think it's like Jamaica, look at this beach, look at that resort, but don't go past ____ street, and for God's sake don't go downtown.

I swung through savannah last year or year before on the way home from hilton head. Im a small town type of guy and my wife wanted to visit ALL the parks downtown so we WALKED 12 - 14 blocks from the paula dean resturant (in the heat of the :JRich: scandal) and I felt like I was constantly looking over my shoulder at homeless guys in every park. The final straw was when one persisted to help us take a pic that we had successfully done. After that it was a fast pace walk alll the way back to the parking deck and 90mph back to HOME. I wont go back.

Just get as close to the biggest body of water possible.

To price :JRich: out of the neighborhood? That works if you live in an area large enough to zone them out of the schools. And that's what I'm worried about. We had maybe 50 out of 1400 at my high school, and that was about 45 too many.

My wife's friend is from the Savannah/St. Simon GA area and that is all she talks about when we visit her in Atlanta. :****: She's currently looking to give up her nice job in Atlanta to move back there...

Been to savannah a few times to party during st pattys day. My cousin lived there and doesn't miss the police arresting, shooting, beating the random :JRich: outside his apt window. I had fun there but it is a bit dark for my taste. Lots of history and cool stuff to see, tourist destination for sure.

Try Pooler GA...just north of Savannah on 95. Decent middle class suburb of Sav near the airport. Lots of new development in the area.

They got the only white McDonald's I've ever seen :****:

This is FACT! And the HOTTEST female I've ever seen working at a McDonald's in my entire life. I literally wanted to stick my tongue in her butt. But was wearing my fat suit, so I didn't.

Edit: this is referencing Cullman's McDonald's

That would be the only advantage to me living there again.

My cousin lived there for a while. We visited a few time to party.
Seemed like crazy **** was constantly happing. Not a good place for a kid or anyone for that matter.

When in the Military I use to spend some time there training about every year...Not a place I would live... Tybee Island is Nicknamed The Redneck Riviera for a reason.
