It happened in a similar scenario as yours. He was a victim of what is known as sympathetic reflex. Basically, when one hand (the one gripping the firearm) reacts to the actions of the other hand. Also, that's why we never place our finger inside the trigger guard until we are aimed in and have made tye decision to use the weapon.
