what are you guys doing hookin them up or blocking them off my radiator is in the back so what do i need to do

Re: stem ports on ls motor

Done it several ways, but the easiest is to drill the pump and plumb them back in for a rear mounted setup

Re: stem ports on ls motor

I am pretty sure I have seen them plumbed back into the tstat housing as well. my radiator has a threaded bung welded into the tank on the passenger side that I have a barbed fitting in and the hose from the crossover tube goes to that......but since you have a rear mounted radiator, that wouldnt work too well.

Kims buggy has a bung welded into the return pipe and a nipple where it is hooked up.

I am no motor guy so could you take a picture of what you are talking about as I will have to do the same thing. And maybe a picture when you get yours done. Would help a lot. Thanks

Re: stem ports on ls motor

Mine runs to a port in the radiator...I did have it blocked and never had a problem, but some claim to.

Re: stem ports on ls motor

I'd like to see a pic of a drilled and tapped t-stat housing. I could drill mine but its way too thin to tap IMO. Tigging a fitting onto it, sure ...

laughing1we did on the lakebed at KOH mid week while overheating like ****ing mad pulling out hair out trying everything.
Yes it was thin, but its holding just fine. I think we might have JB welder'd it for the extra bling laughing1 :woody:

Gotcha. Did it help? I've heard some say it means everything and others claim it does nothing. Personally, it's about as difficult to properly plug the ports as it is to preoperly plumb them so I'll definately plumb mine correctly. Just curious ...

probably not as we were grasping at straws at that point. I have just heard stories of steam pockets trapped and heads being too hot in that area and causing problems. Same here, just as easy to do it right, might as well.

Re: stem ports on ls motor

i have done mine if i can remember to take a pic i will get some posted but it is very simple on the top of the water pump there will be a round flat spot just drill and tap it anywhere on that spot for a 1/8NPT and install a barb fitting in it then just run a rubber hose over to the steam tube and done :dblthumb:
