Most of our trail maintenance days have been pretty productive. Yesterday was no exception. The bonus was, we had a photographer to help document the work that was done.

This is what we started with.

This is after a little weeding at the bottom and taking out the saplings.

Twenty feet into the trail and this is how much we have chopped and moved

All of these, minus the pine, needed a new home

The reason I am posting this is not for praise or recognition personally.....I would love for my friends that have helped and will never ride these trails on their own personal vehicles to get a little recognition. They have helped me put in around 50 hours on this trail alone.

The best way they could get recognition, is for the stigma that Stony Lonesome is a RZR park, to go away and a few bouncers to show up and see what this park really has to offer. I personally know of ten separate trails that are buggy or bouncer only, to include this one. That is not to say that these are the only trails for crawling, just ones that no RZR will ever even attempt. Not just Hill Killer trails either. There are a lot of technical sections that are from good to flat nasty. For Matt at Busted Knuckle to be impressed enough to come out and scout trails with me twice and comment on how the park has improved and has a lot to offer should say enough.

Enough soap box, heres some more pictures ;D

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

This is called God's Gift

It has a bypass that makes it crawlable by a RZR and a good technical section for Crawlers....There is a bouncer friendly 4 foot vertical ledge that was too dark to even get a decent picture of by the time I got to it.

If you look just above the guy in the bandana's head, you'll see the dark spot that is the 4 foot ledge....it is makable, but it will need some wheel speed and to dig just a little dirt off of the top of the rock.

The rain kind of messed up some of the pictures as well. This is one of my favorite trails due to a small tire bypass/viewing area and the bouncer ledges to the right

Trail Cutting and Maintenance

He flipped down Who's Your Daddy on a 4 wheeler....he has head and back injuries....should know more tomorrow.

The guy should have known better. It is rough for a RZR hill, but it is potentially deadly on a four wheeler

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

I hate to hear that about the guy getting hurt. When will people learn their limits on a quad?

Trails look awesome! I can't believe we found that first one at the very end of the day. It is going to be sweet.
This park is definitely ready for some bouncers to come play. If any local buggy guys are interested in making a trip out to check out the new stuff hit me up and we will show you around.

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

Not much of a bouncer but I'm sure we will come help move the dirt off the rocks soon.

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

Call before you ride again. I will either get Matt to come out or borrow a few of his cameras. I will also bring Bobby along to be the tour guide. He knows the place as well as anyone that rides there and well enough that he has a trail named after him.

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

I've been here a few times, but I've only ridden Stony once, and I was IMPRESSED. For anyone to say it's a RZR-only park obviously is looking with squinted eyes... cause I saw a ****-ton of awesome crawling trails and potential on bouncing stuff... looks like you're doing an AWESOME job of clearing some of the stuff I saw!
The coolest thing to me, is that this park has the amenities too! The fact that the county took their time to get all the small things right in the beginning, tells me this park is here for a LONG time... we might as well start using it!

Thanks!

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

The cabins, trailers and RV hook ups are a nice feature.

Mr. Hagan, you are more than welcome to come up anytime and we will personally escort you to and from the good spots. Just like Matt, I appreciate people that appreciate the park.

We have run into a few places that are run off areas and we have to avoid cutting trails there, but besides those few areas, there are 1500 acres to select from. On a regular weekend, $10 to bounce your heart out. $25 on an event weekend and $30 total if it's a night ride. Tell me another park that is open 5 days a week, year round, that will let you (with supervision) cut your own trails and name them?

It has been fun and I will continue to work until my wife finally tells me no. She has been reluctant so far, but supportive. My friends and their wives have been overly supportive too.

I think I am having the same kind if relationship the guys that helped out at the GAP did, but instead, I am doing most of the work. Either way, this park rocks now and it will get even better with every workday.

Don't forget to add possible trail names to the trail names thread and help name the Halloween ride too. We have the December Ride name sorted.

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

This is the kind of work I've been trying.to get accomplished for the last 2 years. I'm glad someone was able to get the time and help together to get it done. You deserve a huge pay on the back, Kel. Bravo!

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

Irony.
Ironic that every offroad forum has at least a dozen "save" threads, and some even have sections devoted to "save [insert trail system]". Everyone complains that public lands are being shut down. "middel fangers" to the gubment... Yet, here is a park created by the county government and supported heavily by them... and virtually no one uses it.
Irony is running out. The more we use this park, the more other counties/states/whoever will see how much of an investment and money maker this can be.
I've taken the position as "events coordinator" with my local toyota club and one of the FIRST rides we're doing is going to be Stony. I truly can't wait!

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

I think this is great to see on public forums and gives me inspiration for my club and local riding area, thanks and great job

Re: Trail Cutting and Maintenance

Thanks for posting pics, b/c all I have ever heard is that it's an atv park. But knowing that there are crawling trails (not bouncer crazy steep stuff) should really help out. I'll put it on my list to check out!
