No, its not about converting it to OBA :flipoff:

Alright, so lets pretend you have a 1990 Toyota pickup with a 22RE and A/C which works. You also have a 1988 Toyota 4Runner with a 3.0 V6 and A/C which works.

Now, lets say that you wanted to transplant your 22RE in place of the 3.0 and you accomplished this part, but now you're thinking you want A/C too. How would you go about doing it?

I'm wondering if I can't just re-install the 22RE compressor and bracket, then run the lines and hook into the rest of the existing 3.0 parts, so the condenser, evaporator, dryer, etc would all be stock for the 88 4Runner which had the 3.0 A/C system, but the compressor and hoses would be from the 22RE. Think it could work?

Ok, heres some more thoughts... Worst case scenario I need to have custom lines made, right? Do places even make custom A/C lines?

My only concern would be knowing what the systems capacity would be for the recharge. Since it would be a mix and match of components, would it be the same or close to the 22RE size system, or the 3.0 size system?

Also, before you all fret, my uncle has all the A/C service equipment I would need to discharge and recharge the new system.

Worse case, custom line, but not likely.

Go for it. the 2 systems are not very far apart on charge, so just get close and you will be fine.

charge it till its blowing about 50deg air or so and call it good
or you could do it by sub cool od guess somewere about 20-13deg sub cool

As long as the compressors are in relatively the same location (can't remember if they are) then the lines should hook up and be good to go. I can't imagine the systems being very different from each other
