So I have been seeing more and more Struts popping up on buggies. What are the advantages to running struts? Do you guys think air shocks will fade out. Just trying to get some knowledge on them.

We are switching three rigs to them now, Daves is done, Buddys this weekend and we are talking to them about running the DP3's on my new comp. rig for testing. Helps a ass load in the corners with the rock racing, if you are just trail riding not sure if they are a plus or not but for comps. I think you will be seeing more of them, great people to work with also. Ordered in Buddys and had them in a week. They have a built in bump stop, but I am sure you knew that alrteady. M

I have checked those out. I was thinking about swapping to those in the rear cause it would be easy vs. all the work to get bumpcan pads on my axle.
Mike what do they run? I'm running a 16" x2" Airshock now.

They run about 5 hundo each.. Buddy said it was $2k for a set of 4

exactly, and I can get some dough back for selling my airshocks, and my bumps. Shoot its only money right.

Whats a set of 14 & 16 airs go for used, and a 4 pack of airbumps (2 new, 2 barely used) I could be into struts fairly cheap. **** now I think about it, that would allow me to move my front out a bit. My front air bumps are what was limiting the move.

I know we can work out a deal.

Mike, they are simple swap outs correct? Unbolt air, and bolt in strut? How did you figure up what ones to get for Buddy?

Just curious, what makes you say that? I run air shocks and to me one of their biggest problems is that they are a pita to adjust. Once you get a grip on how the nitrogen to oil ratio impacts the spring rate you can turn them to do what you want. The problem is that I go to places like Crozet (huge rocks, tons of traction) where I'd like to sit low and get full bump just by putting a wheel on a rock. I also go to places like tellico (slippery and sometimes takes some "bug mashing") where I need uptravel and don't want to bottom out too hard.

If these struts could adjust to different places more easily than my air shocks I'd be psyched.

Thoughts?

The air shock just heat up too fast unlike the struts. They have a buiult in res. in them and hold more oil than a coilover with a res. Very easy to set up. They do NOT just replace what you have. They have a 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch bolt hole i n them and are wider than most air shocks and coilovers. I sent Buddy all new tabs so he could cut his off and re-mount them with the new tabs. The struts have a ton more adj. in them. I am not smart enough to tell everthing about them yet, I think it would be better for you to call them.

Take the price of a coilover, springs, tender kits X 4
Bump stops and cans X4
Build brackets on the chassis for cans and stop on the axles X 4

As a builder I can save the customer money by going this way, not saying that all the customers would want them, it is new, but it is an option I can lay out in front of them to have a nice ride and at a better price to them and less work for us.

If the adjustability of a coil over is there (albeit cheaper, no spring rebuys) and the antifade of a remote resi C/O is there, then I am looking that direction. I make my own bump cans and have the bumps. that's why I'm leaning towards wyatt's air shocks with my bumps.
bolt in deal is no prob with wyatt, I'll burn him some new tabs and install for free thumb.gif
