A guy at work is trying to get the oil filter off his boat motor. He siad it was a V8, I didn't ask the make as I didn't think it should matter.

He tried the slip jaw pliers, the socket style wrench, and even the big ass screw-driver through the side. Still nothing, the screw driver just rips the filter and he's afraid to go harder and fawk up the threads on the mount.

Any other ideas? I told him use some PB Blaster overnight and maybe even some heat.

:corn:

Rope style of filter wrench--I have to use one to get my filter off my dodge due to location....

Last time i had one go that bad i ended up using a screw drive and hammer on the little oil ports on the base of the filter after the screw driver riped the can off.

Once the filter can is bent or colapsed your screwed. At this point your friend will end up having to tear off most the filter can, use a punch or rods in the oil passage holes on the filter base to work it off ; cut fingers, oil all over the place, ect.

I have seen a tool that fit on a socket wrench that was designed to be used after the can was torn away. It engage those oil passage holes. It was on a roto-rack at NAPA or somewhere. Not that I had to...um...err...buy one...

well he eventually got it off. He had never heard of PB Blaster till I brought him a can. :wtf: Boat owners I tell ya.

He soaked it with PB, let it sit 24 hours, and repeated this again. Got it off last night.

shoulda just told him to quit being a *****, grow some balls and use some man to get off. Its all ya need:cool:
