let the issues begin.. so what causes the Dana 30's on these cherokees to get stuck in 4wd? My old 84 did this and I busted the hubs. Something having to do with the vacuum lines get all clogged up or something?

For the TJ shaft coversion all you have to do is pull you 2 piece D30 pass-side axle shaft and replacewith a passenger side TJ shaft.
I thought you could also use a non-CAD XJ passenger front shaft, and do the same w/ the shift fork(pitch it and bolt the housing back up to seal it)....not sure--mine's a factory non CAD; If yours is set up with CAD, I've got a buddy up here w/ a good non CAD front axle assembly, lucky jeff---PM if interested, and I'll call him.:awesomework:
yeh you can use any one-piece. XJ shafts should work too. But the TJ shafts have a bigger U-joint.
Don't you need a special seal to use the TJ shafts?
Or have the TJ shaft machined where it passes through the seal?
I just took the CAD unit off, engaged the disco fork and plugged the vacuum nipples. Its just temporary till I get a posi lock but its stayed engaged with no problems.
you guy's are forgetting one important thing and that is the hub bearing has to come off before you can even get to the axle shaft.:looser: :haha:
I know this is sort of off topic, but my son has a 90 Cherokee and he claims to get better fuel economy with the Jeep in 4WD. So maybe keeping it in 4WD is a good thing?
