So my ford ranger with the 4.0L in it and recently when i would start it it would knock for like 2 seconds and go away but tonight i started it and it just kept knocking started driving and it continued so i parked it in the backyard because it sounds like a rod knock and i dont want to cause anymore damage then i think has already happened. So i would tend to think it needs a rebuild. What is everyone's thoughts on it? if you need anymore info let me know

Is it a "rap rap rap" or a deep gutteral "thud thud thud?" Cause.. the top end isn't know for the best oiling on them... the rocker arms ususally wear out and start clacking pretty loud.

Sounds like a 1-800-Rob.

Sorry to hear that Sam, I was only joking about your Ford Sucking. I really did not mean for you to prove my joke.

:old:

Anywho, as if I have anything that runs right. :redneck:

Im going to give him a call tomorow morning, but i think its somthing he wont do, im kind of thinking its time to get rid of it as its having problem after problem and its not cheap little fixes either

you have one vehicle that runs awesome that subi or yours but the wife gets it most the time lol

Pfft... A pair of remanned rockers/shafts is $130 from Delta Cams in Tacoma. Hardly worth getting rid of the truck over. kinda like your clutch last month.. Every rig eventually needs one. It's not a new truck.. Isolate the noise... pull the valve cover on that side and see what's going on.

Im going to take it somehwere for the work as its the DD and i learn as i go and thats a slow process and i need it fixed like now lol

im more pissed because me and my parents have dumped around 3 or 4 grand into the truck since we bought it and im getting tired of putting money into somthing that just keeps having problem after problem

vw???:fawkdancesmiley: sorry, I have a friend that something similar happened to his ranger, the head gaskets blew and now it sits. hope you can get it fingered out, but my guess would also be rockers if it sounds like it's up higher nad a clacking noise. another thing i'm just throwing out there as maybe a long shot is the oil pump is losing the battle and not getting oil to the top of the motor causing stuff to be "dry":eeek:

the pushrods will get football shaped on the ends of the older ones and make noise too.
usually a tick more than a knock though.....

If i knew where my digi cam was i would take a pic of a 4.0 rocker. They get all fawked up on the rocker shaft and sound like hell. Personally i say fix it, sell it and buy a honda since you dont wanna work on anything.

I just dont like working on my DD because im slow at stuff:redneck:

Guess what Junior... If you wanna wrench.. you gotta learn by doing. If you don't know what's up... ask for help from someone that does....

I daily drove my '67 F-100 when I was your age.. I got quite educated on the internals of a Ford FE big block... You're bitching about a 13 year old truck needing work... You have the strongest and most reliable drivetrain put into a Ranger... fix the rocker arms and it'll go another 100,000 with regular maintenance.
