so, i have decided that i dont like my t-case due to the fact that i cant shift into 4hi unless i going under a certain speed, and i have to stop completely to get it into 4lo. my question is: will a t-case from a newer toyota bolt on without any mods? or is this t-case, in fact, really well built and sturdy?

does it matter to shift into 4low or whatever while stopped? Are you gunna drop it into 4low while doing 30+mph? :wtf:

no, but i dont necesssarily want to have to stop and lose all my momentum on my way up a hill to put it in 4lo.

.....u should start in 4low or 4low 4low all the time. :haha: Also its about gearing and crawl ratio, not really about momentum unless you just CANT make something after several tries.

yeh but this is coming from someone who is planning on 7"-10" of lift to run 33"s :wtf: :haha: :haha: what a tard:flipoff:

better go back to fords :corn: :haha: :haha:

dont 33s go on WITHOUT any lift?

Just askin, because I think ive seen trucks with that done... I aint a toyota guru, though.

easy, guys, those are just preliminary plans. nothing is solid yet. also keep in mind that i am a noob, and this is my first project. it could be as little as 4 inches.

There is no t-case that you can drop into 4lo while going anything over lets say 2mph. They are not synchroed but thats for a reason--you will absolutly break stuff if you try shifting into 4lo.

well, whatever. as i said, i am new to this stuff. i know a little about a lot of things, and a lot about nothing.

Just ask questions and try to use google to search and read and read.... you will get there.....

Hey FordFrk06, the transfer case you have is just fine. If your looking for more speed at times when wheelin use the transmission more. Rather than banging the transfer case between 4 low- 4 high you could just leave it in 4 low and start off in second gear, third, etc...

The NP208J in my '84 J10 and '83 Cherokee I used to have got shifted up and down at speed, and even while haulling a trailer. Some hills I had to start out in low range to clear the intersection fast enough (back when I ran 31" tires, 272 gears and a 727 with tired 258) when loaded. (especially ML King turning up onto Ryan's Way aka Boeing Access rd when I lived in Skyway)
It was just a matter of timing the shift and popping the trans into neutral as I did it.

Just leave it in 4hi and when you come up to an obstacle before you attempt it switch into 4low....or just stay in 4low and 5th gear all the time till you get to your opbstacle:flipoff:

so do you just go on the trails in 4lo all the time?

First of all, Crash brought up a good point. Maybe some guidance is not such a bad idea. Were not saying you're dumb or anything like that. We just dont want you to break your rig. To answer your question 'Yes", why not leave it in 4 low the whole time your out on the trail... Now everyone does things a little different so i'll probably be getting some crap for saying that. But yeah, 4low and 5th gear is about as fast (maybe too fast) as you will need to go anyhow, atleast around the reiter area. With the 5 gears in your transmission leaving it in 4low is not that big a deal. Then when you hit the pavement unlock the hubs and put it in 2wd and drive home.
