The NP208J in my '84 J10 and '83 Cherokee I used to have got shifted up and down at speed, and even while haulling a trailer. Some hills I had to start out in low range to clear the intersection fast enough (back when I ran 31" tires, 272 gears and a 727 with tired 258) when loaded. (especially ML King turning up onto Ryan's Way aka Boeing Access rd when I lived in Skyway) It was just a matter of timing the shift and popping the trans into neutral as I did it.
