what degree taper is a 3/4 Chevy TRE??? I am gonna buy a bit, seeing as how I can't get a cotter pin in my one ball joint. I heard it was a 7* taper, but i want some confirmation...:corn: I have two of these TRE's to do, so i figure it'd be worth it to buy the bit, OH, and where does one find a bit like this?:redneck: :corn: :corn: :corn:

Thanks!

take them to a machine shop, and have them tapered. be less than buying the bit.

ya, i kinda want to do it myself and i know i will do more in the future....:eeek:
i can understand that. but $80 is alot for a bit. how often do you REALLY think ur gonna use it?
but hey, if uve got it, go for it. its always nice to be able to do what you want, WHEN you want to. not to mention helping others down the road.

I understand what youre saying.... So anyone have one??? I know crashy did it last time for me, but i don't know if he has the one for the 3/4 ton TRE's??? Maybe i'll ask him again.:corn:

the taper is 1/4" per foot and is the same for all tre's except toyota. Toyots has its own taper.

try to get spiral flute reamer as they are easier to use then straight flute.

you just go deeper for the larger TREs but the taper is the same. you will need a drill press to do this as it takes a great deal of pressure to cut with a reamer and a sturdy set up but is easily done at home.

dont go too far or its all done....:redneck:

i just kept a TRE handy and reamed and test fit till it was perfect.

ya, that;s basically what crash and i did last time, just test fit it a few times...

If i could find one for $50, i'd get one...:corn:

7? is close, but not exact. 1.5" /foot is the correct one.

I'll almost guarantee crash has one, but I have one as well you could probably borrow. Be a good excuse to get that disc'd 14b you have (if you still got it).
