So, my wife said if I sell my boat I can get a new tow rig. With that in mind I have been looking for an '04 Dodge 3500.

I went to auto trader and noticed when I put in the zip code for Dallas, the rigs are 7K-10K cheaper that in the Puyallup area. I think for that savings I could fly down there and drive it back. Just thought I would post this up in case anyone else is looking also. :;

Jobless, jason C and trevor all flew down to texas and drove there rigs back... Trevor is the only one who kinda got a lemon.

I was looking at that, almost got one.
Found one Cali that was take over payments.
Fly down drive home :cool:

I got a Dodge dually down there in 2000, brand new, brought it up here and sold it about two years later for $600 more than I paid for it. I also got my boat down there two years ago.

Yep...diesel tow rigs are a dime a dozen in New Mexico and Texas, you don't have to go hunting or even stumble acorss a good deal down there.

I've never understood why there is such a big price difference in the SW states. Is it just because there are so many of those trucks down there? A good 15+ years back, I had a neighbor that would fly down a couple times a year and come back driving one CC dually truck with another one on a trailer behind it. He'd turn a good profit reselling both rigs and the trailer up here.

What sort of price range are you guys looking at when you are finding them much cheaper down there? I looked real quick yesterday, but they seemed about the same. Of course, it could be that my price range is too low...

I'm looking at the '04-05 with under 30K miles.

I.ve bought 2 of them down there and drove um back. The paint is what you have to worry about in the southwest. Prob. not a problem on a truck only 2 years old but after 4 years watch out. Also watch out for flood victims in texas, Carfax em before you send the money. If you buy from a dealer don't send the as is statement before you pick the vehicle up (I repeat DON"T SIGN THE AS-IS AGREEMENT) they will send it in the mail, just take it with your so you can inspect it prior to reciving the truck. I did and it cost me some bad paint and a couple power option problems that they never stated in the ad. If I wouldn't have signed the AS-IS i would have had some remorse. Don't learn the hard like I did.
