Ok so im building a 48 cj3a and ive put a 14 bolt in the rear and 8 lug 44 in the front. I plan on running a small block chev backed by a th400. Heres my question. I am on the fence as to which case to run. I was thinking a 300 or a 205. Now i know they make an adapter to mate the 400 to a toyota case. So i was thinking about possibly going that rout and puting a 4.7 kit in the case. Does the toyota case hold up well to 42s and a mildly built 350 or will i be exploding my case every other trip.

14 bolt... 60 up front (which is what you will end up with eventually if you're running 42's), V8 power....

Go for the 205. Even a 300 would be marginal unless you were going to dump a bunch of cash into it to upgrade the outputs and such.

If room is at a premium---I'd think the 300 would hold up well, as long as the outputs are upgraded (as Matt said...); If you have the room, I'd also go for the 205, maybe even a 203/205 doubler.....

why does everybody say you have to upgrade the ouputs of the D300?

I've seen more busted cases than stock output shafts.

I have a dana 300 case and shift rails. everything but the input, rear output and gears.
You can even have the yokes.

Well a 300 is what i realy want to run. I had a th350 mated to a 20 case but ive heard that the th400 is a better tranny and has more of an after market world which i liked. I have more then enuff room because i am in the process of three linking the rear which is stretching the rear out 13 inches. I am also considering linking the front though ive already stretched it out 4 inches. I am very interested in the adapter for 75$ my number is 253 508 4226 give me a call if you got time.
