Normal
Yeah that's normal. My 400 has a tci trans brake valve body and I ran it for a year or so without a button. It would shift to reverse quickly when cold but after the fluid warmed up it would take a sec to engage unless I gave it a bump in throttle. Now that I have it wired to button I always put it in neutral and push the button to back up as the manufacturer instructions state for reverse engagement. Reverse engages almost instantly when you push the button. Look at the solenoid on the passenger side of your case behind the bell housing. If you see 2 wires coming out of the solenoid, you have a trans brake valve body. One wire goes to ground and one wire goes to the switch button. All that's needed after that is to run a wire from a 12v power source to the other terminal on the switch.
