This is a project rig that my brother-in-law and myself built for a good friend of ours recently. There were a couple of strict criteria that needed to be followed throughout the build.....1st it needed to be light....2nd it needed to be low and thirdly it needed to be short to be entered into the short-wheelbase modified class in our national competition series:fawkdancesmiley:
not too much of a tall order as wev'e done plenty other Rigs in the past....it was probaly just the tight boundries we had to work with that made it more challenging:cheer::cheer we would not let our friend down !!!
This was "Mordi's" first picture before it came to my shop:eeek:Butt ugly little bastard but with a lot off Love there was hope !
The idea from the beginning was to create a Rig that was a fully tubed framework but also had the shape and lines of a Jeep. The chassis that came with was shortened and the CJ 5 body was tossed aside as it would be too much work to cut and work it to meet all the dimensions we were working around. We had plans to build an aluminiun body.....in the lines of a CJ 2.
The motor is a 3SGTE Toyota Celica Supra Turbo with more than enough Grunt, turned sideways with a 5spd manual gearbox, welded crown-wheel and 2 modified CV joint prop shafts turning Toyota Open diffs. These have a set of Longfield 30 splines in front with a set of 35" Goodyear MT/Rs on a set of custom built alloy beadlocks
