Don't pay $180 for the Ford racing mini starter kit! It's just a stock starter with a fancy cable!

Starters are $16.99 at pick a part.. of course, all the V8 rigs are missing them already.. but the 3.8Ls are ripe for the picking... as they use the same starter as the 4.9, 5.0, and 5.8, 1990-97. Finally! A use for 3.8L cougars and T-Birds. :D

Advantages are: Weight savings, smaller size, and greater cranking torque with less draw.

You don't even need to get the solenoid or the cable from another vehicle. simply jump the solenoid on the starter and you can use your original style single lead cable. You may have to drill out the eye that went to the older style starter, so it will fit over the solenoid post.

Slight revision. Don't jump the solenoid on the starter. It causes it to run on after you let go of the key. Instead, move your original starter cable to the battery side of the fender solenoid, and then run a new wire from the starter side of the fender relay to the spade terminal on the starter's solenoid.
