Theorys on thermostats.... some say run a hot one in the summer 180-195 so that the coolant will stay in the radiator longer (thus cooler) and some say a cooler (faster opening) one is best (160) So what do you think?
I run a 192*, all year round. If you have a good running rig with no problems then what the factory recommends should be fine, unless you are making gobs of power then a bit cooler would be expected. Just my 2 cents though
The higher temp one does indeed allow the fluid in the rad sit longer where it's cool before going into the engine to be heated up again. Fuel economy is better and emissions are lower too. If you are running carbed however, there is a higher chance of vapor lock.
I used to have the SAE paper on that, but haven't seen any of that stuff since I moved.
i run a 180 stat in my 97 dodge trk with 318 engine.Everybody told me that was way to cool. The rigwould not run rite that cool but it gets better miliage like this and cant get it to ping no matter wat i do just my personal experiance.Thermostats are a major factor but so is radiator effecency/ the difference in temp from top hose to bottom hose my 2cents.
