I don't care what you bolt on to it, a Jeep Unlimited is not going to hang with the rigs at KOTH, it will be lucky to finish. I personally, think it is insulting to bring a rig like that out there, when the rest of the field consists of the best in the sport, and with badass rigs to boot. I don't care how well his wife can drive, if they can't enter their custom built rig or borrow one for the event, they need to sit it out. Sounds like Dustin has 7k burning a hole in his pocket and is dead set on seperating himself from it. Take the effort and energy into a finding a suitabale rig to borrow. He has been dead set on building this LJ from the get go even though the majority say it is a bad idea, but if you are gonna do it start NOW and stop dicking around posting 5 page threads on PBB.

I have not been keeping up with the finer details of KOH. For some reason I understood it as they have classes? If that's not the case there is no way a full bodied rig with bolt-on parts will hang with rigs like JR's. It's just going to clog the trails and kill everyone's chances.

I think he posted that to get sponsors to donate all of the parts (like Bobby has offered) and he walks away with a nice rig for little cash.

I am pretty sure there are no classes, it is a free for all winner take all type of event.

Nolen along with some other PBB regulars posted and tried to help him see the light, but it was useless. Why even post a thread (with a very appropriate title ;D) about should I do this, when you have in your mind that your are doing it regardless. I also find it comical that his expensive ass custom rigs can go 15 and 18mph respectively. I know they are purpose built crawlers, but at least make it so they half-ass dual threats an can do more than just crawl on 10 minute courses. That is idiotic, they don't have to be the best at both worlds, but at least make them capable of competing in both. Rusty Bray ran his Grand Cherokee Buggy in both WERock and XRRA last year, and did damn good in both. I am not really a fan of Dustin because everything he does has alterior motives, but this is his dumbest idea in a long time.

AT WERock Grand Nationals this year, I was done listening to him jabber over the loudspeaker in the 1st 15 minutes. Yet he went on all damn day long. Was an annoying headache.

huh, I'll go against mob then and say I like dustin

don't know him well but he's always helped anybody that needs it

he does have alterior motives with everything - but this is his JOB, his life
he never hides the fact that he makes money doing what he does.

He never said he was gonna win or intended to with a full bodied jeep just have a respectable finish
He's got a great angle to help market and promote the sport and draw in new blood and money

we aren't his target market, nor are we the target market for most offroad companies. We make our own stuff and are too demanding to buy most products. The stuff that we do buy is such a small market that there's no big companies involved.

I also think there's will be some people enlightened by this if he does it. Everyone thinks you need all the newest bling **** to do anything. You don't, you need reliable **** and a good driver.

Company's that make the bling **** for our niche market don't have the money to sponsor this sport correctly. Aftermarket suspension companies do - WEROCK is moving that direction if you haven't noticed. Stock mod will eventually be a bolt on class and big names like Rancho, superlift, etc will be paying lots of money to support that. Blue torch, twisted customs, campbell can't shell out the kind of money that suspension companies can.

don't really care for dustin b/c of all the E whining he has done on teh pbb...

i will however go out on a limb and say that i think that the rig DOES stand a chance....maybe not HP wise, b/c there are a ton of V8s in the rach, but that really only helps you on the lake beds and through the b/t trails...

i think that if it is built and assembles properly, that it will finish....and i think that it is a ballsy move on his part....

he is basically throwing away a jeep that he is going to spend his $ on....can you imagine the sheet metal on it when it is done.....

I just think it is a very possible trail hazard and I think it should start in the rear. If it can get out there and pass some teams that break and then clog the trail, that is A-OK, I just know a lot of my buddies are pouring their heart and soul into this race and it would be a shame for them to get knocked out of the race by someone who was out there for exhibition.

[devil's advocate]

how is it exhibition if he was supposed to have a rig...the deal went south....and he is pouring his $, heart, & soul into putting another one together to try and run the race....?

i think that some of you are scared that it might just do well.....and aside from probable [and extensive] body damage he can prove valid that anyone has teh right to be out there on those trails....

i could care less honestly....i just get tired of seeing everyone getting bashed for every little step from the "NORM"....becca is no rock [GOD] superstar....she aint won **** lately....let them have this moment and see what happens....

JR by a landslide......

I did not know he had another rig lined up.

Still think it's a pretty dumb idea. Not really the arena for exhibitions IMO dunno

its not an exhibition.....he is trying to put something together for the race so they can compete ad originally planned....

I agree if they're worried about him getting in the way ---- Get in front of him !

If you can't pass broke down jeep on the trail your not a very good King of the Hammers now are you
I bet there's constantly **** broken down out there in the way.

That's racin

Becca originally had a rig that she was borrowing but the guy that was loaning it is also in the race and was planning on using his new buggy. The new buggy isn't going to be done and he still offered to let becca run - she refused to let him have an experience that he deserves. Now they need a rig - who here wouldn't spend night and day trying to figure out how to get out there and race if you were invited?

Me, because I was invited :-*

That said, I don't have sponsors to answer to.

really? how could you pass that up? opportunity of a lifetime? or do you think it's over-hyped

I've just always wanted to wheel out there and drive against the best, what better way.
Not saying I'd pour my heart and soul in it to win but I'd be there and give it everything I got
consider it the vacation for the year and get some guys to put it back together and wheel some more while out there
