Alrighty. I'm having the damndest time mounting my tires and wheels. I can get the bead about 3/4 around the rim and then it wont budge. I dont know if this is a common problem with bias ply tires or not....

I have a set of 36x13.5x17 inch Bias Iroks and 17x9 Cragar soft 8's with Great Lake DIY beadlocks.

Anyone have any tips or tricks they could share?

thanks

Make sure the bead is IN THE DROPWELL to optomize stretching over the rim. Also soap the rim AND the tire.

This is one of the things with a DIY setup....the rim bead has not been reduced so it can be a bitch to(by hand) stretch the bead over the wheel

My experience is that beadlock wheels are easier to mount than a standard wheel.

Do you have experience mounting tires by hand ?
The basics are: 1) Use a little soap. 2) The opposite side of the bead must lay into the recessed "drop" section of the wheel or you will never get the last part of the bead over the rim.

You will definately work up a sweat as it will take some muscle. Just be carefull not to nick up the rim, tear the tire cords, or damage the tire bead seating surface with your spoons. If you hear the cord tearing STOP and get a new bite with the spoons.

buddy of mine and i reamed on the tires for over an hour.. didnt gain an inch..

im going to take them to do little mexi tire shop and have em mount one bead

im sure you know this but some wheels are directional... as the tire will only instal from one side...

are these reversed center rims?

its a major deal if they are.

Ya it is:haha: :haha:

Also call your local NAPA see if they have some "RuGlyde", its a super slippery substance for mountaing tires:awesomework:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm................................................

Makes me wonder if Sam has used this stuff for something else???????????

not sure but he was just recently over at my shop wrestling with his tires and learned the importance of lube when stretching rubber.

that tire bead sealer is the ****. next time i break my tires down im gonna use it on my back bead.

so back on topic, if you ended up with reversed center rims, with bead lock rings, you made a major mistake. i believe trail ready might be your only hope.

PM doved85 on this board and ask about what he ended up doing.

i think they had to cut his rims in half and welded back..not sure what they did but they fixed them. the price was less than starting over.

let us know.
