Anyone know if you really need friction modifier in the rear axle in a TJ Rubicon? I Know it works as a limited slip with the locker turned off, but it is not a clutch type limited slip. Anyone with Rubicon not run the FM?

Just run lucas gear oil.

It takes care of the problem. No need to run a friction modifier even if it is required.

NEG-A-TIVE.

The rear limited slip (in all TJ Rubicons) is a Thorsen type differential. The friction that locks the diff is created by the side load of the metal worm gears against the housing (metal to metal = no fiber clutch packs).

Use normal hypoid oil 85-90w. No friction modifier used. The Jeep manual says you can also use 85-140 weight synthetic for "towing/heavy service" if you like.

Jeep did offer a limited slip fiber clutch type diff option BUT it was not used in the Rubis. :awesomework:
