I don't think it'll hurt anything if they were to rub. It's not like they're rotating at different RPM, they're bolted together. About the ony thing I can fathom is if a sharp object (rock) got pinched in the gap, I supposed it could chafe enough to cause a leak..... but I think that's not likely. On another subject, I had a slight clearance issue with my TJ's coils and the beadlocks I got from Trailready. Jeff cut me a spacer out of some leftover 1/2 aluminum stock. You might try something like this between the inner & outer wheels.
